Name:Kerena
Alias:Mage, Rena
Gender:Female
Race:Human Terra Mage
Occupation/Skills:Second in Command of the Seraphims
Age:26
Height:5’10”
Appearance:Tall and whipcord lean, usually with a sword on her hip. Long dark hair, falling about to her waist, tan skin from being outdoors most of the time, and vibrant purple eyes. Usually wears a thick leather chest plate, underneath which is a softer leather top that lends extra protections as well as comfort; a wrap around skirt gives her freedom of movement, and is belted at her waist with several straps of leather and her sword belt. Her eyes are always darting about, taking in her surroundings, and she seems constantly ready to spring into action if needed.
Powers:As a Terra Mage, she has the ability to affect things of a natural origin. One of her favorite spells is conjuring a small ball of light that bobs about and follows her around.
History:When Kerena was born, all the plants in the room simultaneously bloomed and the trees outside creaked and seemed to bow to her; life rejoiced and renewed-except for that of her mother’s. She did not survive the childbirth, and her father, who was the leader of a small town in the backwoods of Lai’Nir, blamed her obvious magical heritage for it. He had denounced the Magi for years, and now that his own daughter appeared to be one of them, he risked public shame and denouncement- so he hid Kerena from sight. Telling the townspeople she was blind and ill due to complications during her birth, he made her wear dark glasses at all times to hide her tell-tale purple eyes and kept her away from people as much as possible, forbidding her to ever use the magic that pooled in her. Of course, this was practically a death sentence for a Mage, and though she didn’t know this, Kerena still would sneak off into the woods and do magic, just as experiments, but every time she got caught by her maid, it was longer and longer until she could sneak away again.
When she was 15, during a particularly long bout of restriction, a Scribe came to talk to her father. The townspeople, her father included, held little love for non-human races, and was very brusque and cold with the Scribe. The foreigner asked to be allowed to take Kerena back with him to train, or at least to be allowed to come here and train her, but of course her father refused. So the emissary brought forth a young boy, about Kerena’s age, with the same violet eyes Kerena possessed, and told him that things bigger than his little village were happening and Kerena was a part of them. Kerena made up her mind to run away with them before the denial even left her father’s lips, and she ran back to her room to ready herself, planning to leave that night and catch up with the emissary. Her maid happened to catch her packing however, and when Kerena revealed her intentions, the woman slapped her and tried to force her into her confinement room, but Kerena exploded. After so long not using any magic, it had built up in her and suddenly the dam broke, and raw energy flowed out of the girl and battered her maid. Both of them fainted, and the next morning Kerena was exposed to the town as the Mage she was. Her father, trying to save face and furious at the girl, sentenced her to a Hunt, a fate he and the town had employed to hunt Magi for centuries. The city’s protectors, two giant stone Manticores, were spelled to track those with magic (a hypocritical fact that did not escape her) chased her through the woods, and would have caught and killed her had she not fallen into a cave and gotten utterly lost, eventually finding her way back out miles away from her city. The Scribe tracked her down and took her back with him to be trained, and during the war she led the Magi. After the war, Kerena laid her Obsidian Sword to rest and formed the Seraphims.
Personality:Kerena is stubborn and headstrong, and very cautious and suspicious of those around her. She doesn’t trust very easily, but can be friendly enough when the occasion calls for it. She’s very feisty and never turns away from a fight, though she has a great respect for life and never takes things as far as killing someone (or something) unless she absolutely has no other option. In order to prevent another outburst like the event from her childhood, she regularly uses her magic and stores it in small stones meant to hold her power as backups, and often has a back up for anything she does - even if it’s just a plan, she likes to be prepared.
